1 janv. 1796 - Horace Mann

Description:

Mann is know as one of the most significant influences of character education in the early American education systems. Like Others in his century, he believed in universal education. HIs passion for the teaching of character education in school stemmed from his belief that its teaching helped compensate for the physical weakness that bodies are vulnerable to. He felt that students were lacking in the area of moral reasoning. Therefore, character education needed to move beyond formal instruction and should be a guided process towards truth. In order to guide students, he felt that educators needed to model this quality character and that a teachers training in quality morals was essential. Students needed to be guided not coerced (Watz, 2011).
