Auguste Comte is the founder of the positivist thought in philosophy and the father of Sociology. He believed that Society could be studied like the physical sciences using objective scientific methods (positivism). Positivism is the idea that the only authentic knowledge is scientific knowledge.
He first used the term Sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific study of society. He believed that this new science should guide social reform and discover social principles.
Auguste Comte was greatly influenced by the french and industrial revolution as well as the age of enlightenment.
