Description:
Canada and the US officially merged air defense against the Soviet Union on September 12, 1957, by signing the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Both American and Canadian forces, bases, and radars were controlled in Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. A second control station was established in North Bay, Ontario. NORAD gave easier access to numerous arms, including nuclear arms and bombers.Image: one of NORAD's tracking systems
