1 janv. 1800000 av. J.-C. - Homo erectus (“Upright Man”).
Description:
Homo erectus was the direct antecedent to our species, Homo sapiens. He came in several forms, and I would include here the taxon Homo ergaster, as well as Homo rudolphensis. He was a world traveler, originating in Africa and spreading to western Asia, eastern Asia, and southeast Asia. The type specimen was found on the Indonesian island of Java, and later specimens were found at Zhoukoudian Cave, near Beijing ("Peking Man"), as well as the famous "Turkana Boy" of Kenya. Another site in modern day Georgia, near Dmanisi, yielded a whole community of early H. erectus, known as Homo ergaster. Homo erectus dates from nearly 2 million years ago to 400,000 years ago. He was more advanced than Homo habilis, with a larger cranial capacity (increased encephalization), was taller and more gracile, and was adept at making stone tools. The lithic, or stone tool technology, of Homo erectus was Acheulia.
