1 sept. 1983 - 3rd Grade in Italy

Description:

- Oddly enough, I remember my first day of 3rd grade very vividly.
- We had just arrived in Italy about 6 weeks prior, so there was a huge language and cultural barrier to overcome.
- I was placed in a sink-or-swim scenario and had to respond. Fortunately, I took to the language pretty quickly and was able to adapt.
- I think this experience built some resilience in me.
- Academically, I was able to catch up to the rest of the class by the Christmas break, so the latter half of the school year I was much less stressful than the first half.
