This Supreme Court case integrated schools, ruling that "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal". This case began the long and tumultuous process of integrating public schools in the U.S.

Bridges now lives in New Orleans and serves as the chair of the Ruby Bridges Foundation, a charity organization that works to promote tolerance and respect.)
