2 janv. 986 - Lief Erickson's encounter
Description:
Lief Erickson, famous Icelandic Viking known for being the first European to discover the Americas, reported seeing a race of ape-men he called the Matlog in Vinland, or what is now Newfoundland, Canada. Matlogs were about 9 to 12 spans in height (7 to 9 ft tall) and were covered in burnt black hair. They stole salmon from their carts and would throw rocks and slam sticks on trees extremely loudly. He also noted that the Skræling (native peoples) were terrified of the Matlog.
