21 nov 1916 - Franz Ferdinand takes the Austrian Throne

At the age of 86, Emperor Franz Joseph would die peacefully in Vienna. This, of course, left the Archduke in line to the throne.

Many saw this as a potentially rising time for Austria, the Archduke's liberal mindset towards ethnic autonomy was perhaps exactly what the nation needed to end it's woes and strife, His policy of remaking Austria into a great power seemingly had great potential for a possible post-war resurgent Austria.

None of this would come to pass though, as the actions of the heir would soon lead to the crumbling of a centuries old empire.
