Military blamed Kaiser for loss of war - was abdicated. Chancellor Prince Max of Baden gave government of Germany to Friedrich Ebert, leader of the Social Democrat Party. Ebert's deputy, Philipp Schiedemann, addressed the crowd out the Reichstag window to proclaim the Germany was a republic, before the intended parliamentary vote had been conducted.
