2 mars 2018 - University Begins

Description:

First week back at uni/on placements and the band is already undergoing entropic changes. These could be mostly attributed to the 3rd years, with Sabrina dropping out due to exhaustion, Ben losing all evidence of his productivity over summer (citation needed) and dropping out to redo everything, Zac arriving late due to mysteriously appearing in Caulfield and Dorothy scaring the wits out of JB by putting the car in drive to reverse and driving too close to Zac. Ultimately the band ended up leaving from the Smith’s at close to 7:30 pm to make a 7 pm rehearsal because ± 1.5 hours. Along the way, James and Zac learned the art of miming through the back the car window, however, the skill was not mastered quickly enough to communicate their desire for krispy kreme. 1 early turn off was nearly made by Zac and a turn off was missed according to James (I was just joking lol) to the confusion of both drivers. This was JB’s first time in Pakenham (at this point, the fact that the rehearsal was held at Pakenham should be assumed knowledge) and the furthest he has been from melbourne CBD in 10 years barring flights overseas.

The first call of action after arriving was to race into the sunset which James won, with Zac coming second, JB coming third and Dorothy coming last. Unfortunately, the sunset was missed by 10 minutes, so the results of the race are meaningless. Nonetheless, the pretty clouds were captured and everyone was satisfied as we strolled back to the warehouse to start the rehearsal at 8:45 pm (pre sure since JB sadly realised food shops were closing in 17 mins). Fix you was rehearsed once with the backing track and thrice without and recorded on the last attempt. Noted by everyone, was the emptiness which came from the missing organ part, Dorothy’s voice breaking, the slow tempo and the dramatic accelerato at the bridge. It was agreed that it was getting there although Zac pointed out it is an easy song and there are two missing parts.

Only exception was also rehearsed and it is noted that an acoustic would better suit the song and that the energy should be kept up for the last few bars. Vocals also need working on in the bridge. Trouble with the bass part in the last few bars were sorted out by James and JB which was the most productive part of the rehearsal.

In keeping with the tradition of the band, Zac, JB and James decided to jam out after some japanese was learned. This would have gone on indefinitely despite JB and Zac’s musical protests as James’ bass part was never ending however Dorothy cut the master volume of the bass amp after fiddling with other switches and knobs which were ineffective. The riff however, still lives on in the acoustic electric bass, the electric guitar and vocals.

Strangely enough, as the instruments were loaded onto the cars, the band discovered the joy of clapping. This carried on for at least 20 mins in the car park where JB and James were searching for the best clapping location. It was only the time (11:30 pm) which spurred them into leaving the wonderful activity for the maccas run. This time, Zac took the 7th exit at the 4 exit roundabout, amusing his followers. There was also a bemusing incident where Zac felt the need to park twice at Maccas.

The band struggled to use the touch screen to order their maccas but persisted to the end. There was much talk of krispy kremes once again, but it was decided against. We discovered that google’s music recognition was better than snapchat’s for foreign music although neither were perfect. Zac was named as one of the greatest drummers of all time as a playlist “ride home” was formed. Said playlist was synced across the two cars even though Dorothy’s singing made this difficult. On the ride home side by side driving was attempted by only persisted for short bouts of time. To Dorothy and JB’s confusion and concern, Zac’s car swerved thrice. (apparently sticking hands out of window) Towards the end of the journey, once again, Zac missed the turn off into husband road and ended up at JB’s place after nearly backing into Dorothy’s car twice at the speed bump. (JB still scared for his life)

We then took a short stroll down a mystery path and woke up some of JB’s neighbours. Eventually after talk of gym sessions, gaming and Zac replacing Scott, the members headed to their respective homes. (soz for the long entry, still fresh in my mind)
