1 janv. 1607 - Flappit

Description:

The name of a public house on the road between Brighouse and Keighley. The meaning of the name has been much discussed and it remains uncertain. However, Flamore edge was a place-name recorded in Hanlith in 1607, which means ‘flaw moor’ (DDMa) and it is tempting to think that Flappit might once have been ‘flaw-pit’, a similar construction to the more frequent ‘turf-pit’.
