Description:
Regarded as the "father of Japanese Buddhism", Prince Shotoku made Buddhism the state religion by constructing major Buddhist temples such as Horyu-ji near Nara.
Horyu-ji temple is the only surviving Buddhism monastery from the Asuka Period in it's original state.
