Description:
This amendment stated that African Americans would have the full rights of their citizenship that were stated in the Constitution. All citizens would have equal protection under the law. Also, no state could come back to the Union until it followed this amendment. Even though president Johnson opposed this because, “he felt that it was too harsh on the South.The president was impeached because of his constant disagreement with the propositions of the Congress, but remained in office shortly after.
