Description:

Having received false reports from the USSR that Israeli forces were massing on the Syrian border, Nasser was forced to ask the UN to withdraw some of their peacekeeping forces from the Sinai because he couldn't lose face in front of the Arab states.

To his surprise, the UN pulled back completely and Nasser was forced to follow through with his threats against Israel. This allowed him to close the Strait of Tiran to Israeli ships, triggering the Six Day War.
