Description:

Causes:
-Gold had been discovered near Indian Territory.
-This caused many miners to cross Indian Territory through the Bozeman Trail, which was a short cut.
-The Indians responded by attacking them.

Events:
-In 1866, the government attempted to create a new treaty to allow the prospectors safe travel across Indian land.
-Before talks had begun, Red Cloud discovered that the government were building forts along the Bozeman Trail and would allow the miners safe travel whether or not they agreed.
-Red Cloud called off negotiations and attacked a fort along the Bozeman Trail.
-80 soldiers were killed.

Consequences:
-The government realised they couldn't defeat the Indians using the military.
-The second Fort Laramie Treaty was written.
