With the introduction of rice farming, the proper tools had to be developed. Hoes and spades that had stone blades and heads were replaced with metal that had also been introduced from Korea into Japan.
Rice is more than just a food in Japanese culture. Japanese imperial rituals are mostly about planting and harvesting rice.
