1 janv. 1947 - Truman Doctrine

Description:

|1947|

As a response to the soviet expansion into Europe, Truman made a speech declaring his Doctrine for dealing with communism in the battlegrounds of Europe.

He stated that the US would commit to its involvement in European affairs and help stop the spread of communism. In other words they would " contain " communism, this policy became known as 'containment'.

He also argued that the world was becoming split into capitalist and communist. The US would use its economic power and military strength to protect the world from communism and keep the world free. This is known as an interventionist strategy.

In some ways, a consequence of this was the Marshall Plan and a response was Cominform.
