The captain of the Gideon MK II mysteriously dies in stasis tank which caused Lt. Cmdr. Orion to receive a battlefield promotion to the rank of O-6 Captain.
Captain Markus was one of the founding members of the UFT and served the British Military before joining the Federation. He was one of the Officers on Mars during the completion of her terraform. His wife and son reside on a small cottage on Olympus Mons. After his return to Earth, he worked with NASA on developing advanced robotics for future terraforming. When the UFT was created, he was promoted to the rank of O-6 and became leader of the ARM division. When Gideon MK II was finished, he was one of the few senior Commanding Officers, and thus was given charge. He made one last video call to his family on their way toward Titan. Unfortunately, his wife and son wouldn't discover his death for many years.
Onboard the ship, Siri bonded with Orion. He appreciated Orion's values and improvisation. They both would regularly skip mandatory stasis in exchange for busy work. Before he passed, Siri's last order was the promotion of Orion from O-3 Lieutenant to O-4 Lieutenant Commander in addition to First Officer.
