Description:
Gorbachev gets elected president of the Soviet Union in 1985 and brings a different approach to his presidency. Glasnost meant "a new openness" and perestroika meant reforming the Soviet Union. For example, Gorbachev moved Russia's economy away from being socialist to put back the ruined economy experiencing food shortages and uncompetetive factories.
