25 déc. 1991 - Resignation of Gorbachev and the fall of the Soviet Union
Description:
Gorbachev resigned the presidency of the Soviet Union on December 25, 1991. One week later the Soviet Union no longer existed. It had been replaced by a loose alliance of former Soviet republics called Commonwealth of Independent States. Russia's new president, Boris Yeltsin, emerged as the dominant leader in this fragmented land.
Also, his policy of glasnost (openness) and perestroika gave enough inspiration to anti-Communist movements throughout the Eastern Europe that had worked for decades.
