Originally made to be decorative, with lines and circles on the exterior. The pieces of jade cong on display in the British Museum were found in graves, with no traces of written records explaining the pieces. Used two distinct types of ritual jade objects: a disc, later known as a bi, and a tube, later known as a cong, of square cross-section, pierced with a circular hole.
