Description:
Located in the middle of the South Pacific In Rarotonga a.k.a the Cook Islands. The staffs were known as god sticks. They could be 73 cm. to about 4 meters. It is made with ironwood wrapped with barkcloth.The upper part is a carved head above smaller carved figures. The lower end is a carved phallus (penis). The barkcloth also contained red feathers and pieces of pearl shell, also known as the spirit of god. Speculated that they represent Tangaroa the creator god and they embody female and male reproductive qualities. The staff god is a combination of male and female elements.Ajouté au bande de temps:
