Background: Beowulf was probably told orally before being written down later. It's possible that there are multiple authors.
Plot: There are three sections. First, a young Beowulf comes to the mead hall (??) and kills Grendel. In the second part he kills Grendel's mother. He grows older and fights a dragon. The dragon defeats him, and someone else takes over as the ring giver.
