the 15th amendment from 1870 allowed the right to vote for any man no matter of color race or religion. however, there was still discrimination and hatred toward that fact. many parties wanted to keep African Americans from voting. during the civil rights movement, many voting rights groups were meet with violence. the US senate passed the voting rights bill may 26, 1965.
