In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested in Birmingham, Alabama for protesting without a permit and was imprisoned for eleven days before being released. While in jail, MLK wrote, “Letter from Birmingham Jail” which stresses the importance of violence resistance and peace while protesting.
