Description:

This is the first death scene in the book and it's very traumatizing for Buck. He sees Curly go up to a husky and watches in horror when the husky lunges forward and takes a chunk out of Curly's face. Once Curly is down a bunch of other Huskies pounce on her a rip her to shreds. Spitz, another one of Buck's sled teammates, watches and laughs. It is at this moment that Buck learns that in the wild, there is not mercy. It is also at this point that Buck realizes he hates Spitz.
