Resulted after the US continued to expand and they disagreed with the British over boundaries in MaineDivided the contested territory between the British and US and settled the northern boundary of Maine
War was averted even though the US were still angry at Britain from the Revolution, War of 1812, and disagreements over land
Did not settle arguments over Maine and conflicts like this led to Polk's "Fifty-four forty or fight"
