Description:

The Civil Rights Act was an extremely important but controversial US legislation intended to end discrimination based on race, colour and religion. It was proposed by President John F. Kennedy in 1963. The act guarantees equal voting rights by removing registration requirements that are biased against the underprivileged. It prohibits segregation or discrimination in places of public accommodation. It banned discrimination by trade unions, schools or employers. Kennedy was first unsuccessful for passing the bill in congress.
