1 déc. 1955 - Rosa Parks
Description:
On December 1st 1955, Rosa Parks was commuting home from work by the Montgomery municipal bus. Black citizens often avoided municipal buses however 70% of the passengers on the bus were typically black. The front of the Montgomery bus was reserved for white citizens while the back was reserved by black citizens. In the law, no white or black person could be asked to give up their seat even if there were no other seat available. At one point of the trip, a white man got on the bus, however there were no more seats left in the white section. Thus, the driver asked 4 people from the coloured section to stand up. Everyone stood up except for Rosa Parks. She was arrested and fined. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a civil-rights protest where African Americans refused to ride city buses.
