Henry Hudson departs for his final voyage in hope to discover a northwest passage. His funding was provided by the English Virginia Company.
On June 25 Hudson passed through what is now known as the Hudson Strait entering the Hudson Bay on August 2. Entering the Hudson Bay caused much excitement among the explorers who believed that they had found the northwest passage, but they never found the route because they were trapped in the ice in the James Bay.
