1 janv. 1917 - Buchanan v Warley
Description:
A 1914 Louisville city ordinance forbade Black and White people from buying property in an area where the other was in majority. A member of the NAACP challenged by purchasing a house on a White block. The Supreme Court held that the ordinance violated the Fourteenth Amendment because it interfered with an owner’s right to sell property and a buyer’s right to purchase it. The decision limited how cities and their police could enforce segregation through housing regulations.
