The "Treaty of Paris" refers to several historic agreements, most notably the one signed on September 3, 1783, that ended the American Revolutionary War and recognized the United States as an independent nation. Another significant Treaty of Paris, signed in 1763, ended the French and Indian War, with France ceding its North American territories to Britain. The term can also refer to the treaty that ended the Spanish-American War in 1898, ceding territories from Spain to the U.S.
