2 sept. 1939 - Evacuation to Sutteton
Description:
It was decided that my Grandma's school would be evacuated to Sutterton in Lincolnshire. One mother was allowed to go to the ratio of 1 mother to 10 children. Needless to say Grandma's mother went - Grandma was still being treated as being very delicate.
They boarded coaches at School and went to the pier and onto paddle steamers bound for New Holland. They stayed overnight near Scunthorpe and my Grandma was amazed to see the tremendous glow in the sky from the blast furnaces when they were being fuelled.
