-Strength Through Joy, organised by DAF (German Labour Front - NSDAP organisation to replace banned trade unions)

-government subsidised leisure activities + facilities e.g. sports, dance, theatre, trips abroad, cruises etc.

-aims: increase morale + production, create sense of solidarity/community (in line with idea of Volksgemeinshaft)

-perceived material benefits compensated for loss of personal freedom under regime
