52 US diplomats were held hostage mostly by Iranian high school and college students for 444 days
Begins the era of terrorism as a big part to the US foreign involvement
Part of the reason that Carter was not reelected was that the public saw him as weak in face of danger/crisis (wasn't able to free the hostages)
Increased tension between the US and Middle East in the future
