23 juill. 1945 - Liberation of Majdanek
Soviet forces captured Lublin on July 24. They encountered the camp of Majdanek as they advanced westward Europe. The SS (Schutzstaffel) had evacuated many of the prisoners beforehand and they were sent to other camps, such as Gross-Rosen, Auschwitz, and Mauthausen. They were not able to dismantle the camp which left behind evidence of the Nazi crimes, such as prisoners who had not been evacuated (mostly soviet).
