Using violence to intimidate their opponents the Nazis still only received 44% of the votes, with the support of the nationalist and regional parties that agreed with most of the Nazis major Ideas however Hitler commanded a secure legislative majority The regime quickly pushed through the Four year enabling act-permitting the goverment to Decree laws without parliament. the only opposition came from the social democrats. communist party members had already been arrested - both parties were subsequently banned.
