30 avr. 1958 - Lois's Job is in Jeopardy
Description:
Near the end of April, Melba's mom, Lois, hadn't shown much emotion at all and was very blank faced all day. Later she spilled what made her so blank and emotionless, her boss refused to give her a contract for next year as long as Melba stayed in school at Central High. Her boss said that the only way to get her job back is to "... withdraw Melba from Central High immediately" (Beals 203). With Lois's Job in jeopardy, Melba's family had no assured source of income, and were constantly worried financially. Later Lois wrote an article on how her job was lost, and confronted her boss after being promoted to by her boss. She got her contract back and Melba's family was saved from going bankrupt. This showed Melba how determined the segregationists were to stop her from finishing, to the point of getting her family involved.
