Russia had suffered defeat after defeat in WW1
Reasons:
-Poor leadership - Generals did not work with each other
-Leadership of the Tsar - had no military experience, mostly blamed for the defeats
-Barely enough supplies mfor soldiers
- Lack of infrastructure - not enough factories, poor roads and railways
- poor communication - messages were lost and intercepted
-Outdated Tactics - rode on cavalry
Consequences:
-Low morale in soldiers - desertion was common
-Overall great opposition to war
- Inflation increased greatly
-food shortage - higher food prices
-great poverty
- Tsarina was left to rule and was highly unpopular
