1 mars 1928 - First Nations - Department of Indian Affairs(1928)

Description:

A man named Duncan Campbell Scott found Indigenous people an issue and wanted everyone to be white culture. He stated he 'wanted to get rid of the Indian problem' in 1920. In 1928, the Department of Indian Affairs was developed. This affair was made to immobilize Indigenous culture and gain Euro-Canadian culture. Punishments were extreme including beating, burning, or electric shock. These disciplines were given if you spoke in your language, talked to family, or did other things that involved their previous routine. Food was also scarce, and the government didn't provide enough money for the residential schools. The schools received half the amount of money to supply students with nutritious meals everyday, making children eat bread with jam, and porridge majority of days.
