-America's industrial sector was being dismantled
Deindustrialization:
-dismantling in manufacturing and industrialization in post-WWII decades
-employment and labor union decline

Rust Belt:
-once heavily industrialized regions that went into decline after deindustrialization, leaving abandoned plants and distressed communities
