Description:
The Fashoda Incident ; French and British forces met in Fashoda, Sudan, as they competed for colonial control in Africa. Tensions rose, but neither side wanted war. The standoff ended peacefully, leading to improved relations between Britain and France, culminating in the Entente Cordiale of 1904.
