The RMS Lusitania sank during World War I, after being torpedoed by the German submarine U-20. The attack occurred about 11 nautical miles off the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland, as the ship was nearing the end of her 202nd trans-Atlantic crossing from New York to Liverpool.
