10 août 1755 - The Expulsion of the Acadians

Description:

In August 10, 1755 the Expulsion of Acadia had occurred. This happened after Acadia had been traded between France and Britain several times. The people of Acadia didn't feel loyal towards france nor England. This led them to want to be neutral. In 1755, they belonged to Britain. Cornwallis and Governor Lawrence were starting to suspect the Acadians or Disloyalty. This was because Priests from France urged Aboriginal people to attack British troops, multiple spies were thought to have been giving advance notice of British movements. This is when Governor Lawrence demanded that the Acadians take an Oath of Allegiance. The Acadians refused to take the oath. The Acadians then were expelled by Governor Lawrence. 6000 - 8000 Acadians were expelled by the first year but then over the next 5 year 10,000 were expelled. The French respected the Acadians neutralism to both Britain and France more than the British did, this was because they originally were French. The British on the other hand didn't feel as if they were loyal and demanded they take an oath.
