1 janv. 1963 - Founding of the Learning Disabilities Association of America
Description:
In 1963, parents at the "Exploration into the Problems of the Perceptually Handicapped Child" conference in Chicago met with professionals to express that their children were in dire need of services (LDA). These services that the children needed did not exist, and in order to change this, a national organization full of volunteers was formed to "create opportunities for success for all individuals affected by learning disabilities through support, education, and advocacy" (LDA). Now, this organization is made up of specialists, educators, and therapists that use the latest research to create programs and resources for children with learning disabilities. The LDA aims to increase the rate of early identification of disabilities, as well as evidence based intervention to help the student succeed.
