28 mars 1830 - Indian Removal Act
Description:
What Happened?
President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act, which gave the U.S. government legal authority to forcibly relocate Native nations to Indian Territory (Oklahoma).
Impact on Shawnee Removal
This law sealed the fate of the remaining Ohio Shawnee (Wapakoneta, Lewistown, and Hog Creek), who were removed within two years.
Many Shawnee who had already migrated west voluntarily (Cape Girardeau, Kansas) saw their lands under threat as well.
