30 déc. 1963 - First use of napalm

Description:

While used in WWII, the Korean War, and other military excursions, the first use of napalm in the Vietnam War happens in 1963. "Napalm" is a mixture of gasoline and diesel fuel which creates a gel-like substance that is highly flammable. It is good for clearing foliage while also being an effective weapon of war. About 350,000+ tons are used between 1963 and 1973.

9-year-old Phan Thị Kim Phúc (picture #2) is the victim of a South Vietnamese plane accidentally dropping an ordinance of napalm on South Vietnamese troops and civilians. She strips off her burning clothes and begins yelling "Nóng quá! Nóng quá!" or "Too hot! Too hot!" She is taken to a hospital in Saigon where doctors determine her burns are too severe and that she will likely not survive. However, after over a year in the hospital and 17 surgeries later, she will survive, receiving her final skin treatment in July 2022 (picture #3).
