Addressed the growing tensions btwn the American colonies and Britain after the Intolerable Acts
Outcomes:
1. declaration
- asserted colonies' rights to life, liberty, and property
- declared that only colonial assemblies and the right to impose tax
- denounced the intolerable acts
2. boycott of British goods
3. unity among colonies
- would make a second continental congress if conditions of American treatment did not improve
