17 nov 1989 - USAMRID Take a Second Look

Description:

On November 17th, a day after informing the Reston monkey house that their illness was SHF, scientists at USAMRID took a second look at the virus samples found in the monkey's meat sample. Through a light microscope, the cells in the sample looked unrecognizably sick. The fluid the cells were in was milky with dead cells, and the cells themselves were swollen and sprinkled with black specks. The scientist hypothesized that a bacteria, pseudomonas, had breached the sample and was the cause of the unusually sick cells. The scientist tested for the bacteria in the virus sample by sniffing the sample in an attempt to smell a pheromone the bacteria produces. Unable to smell the pheromone, the scientist decide to put the sample in an electron microscope.
