aug 23, 2005 - Hurricane Katrina
On August 23, 2005 tropical storm Katrina formed over the Bahamas, increasing to a category 2 before making landfall on Hallandale beach Florida. The storm then circled into the Gulf of Mexico quickly using the warm water to strengthen into a category 5 before slamming into southern Louisiana. The storm went down as the most deadly since hurricane Okeechobee in 1928, and was the most devastating causing 108 billion dollars in damage 4 times more than Hurricane Andrew back in 1992. The storm took 8 years to clean up after and even now there are still remnants of debris underneath the sand on the beaches.
